Drunk driving, speeding, aggression and inexperience are all common reasons people suffer from auto accidents. However, one of the biggest causes of auto accidents is distracted driving. It can cause drivers to miss seeing dangers on the road.
Distracted driving can take three forms: visual, manual or cognitive. In other words, if a driver looks away from the road, takes their hands away from the wheel or thinks about anything that isn’t driving, then they may be distracted.
It’s easy to become distracted while driving, however, drivers have a responsibility to avoid it. Here are two of the things that drivers may do that lead to distractions.
1. Texting and driving
One of the most common causes of distracted driving is texting and driving. Most people take their phones with them as they travel. A call or text may distract a driver. The driver cannot give their full attention to the road if they intend to respond to a call or text while their vehicle is still in motion.
2. Eating and drinking
Many drivers can go through fast food restaurants to grab a quick, hot meal. However, that hot meal could be a cause of a distraction. The driver may be tempted to open up the food bag or box and grab a burger, fry or donut and eat it while still in motion. However, these actions could lead to a crash.
Victims of a crash caused by someone else’s distracted driving need to learn what they should do to seek compensation for any injuries they suffer.
